Old New England Cars or simply "ONEC" is an automotive blog dedicated to preserving the unique and uncommon classic and vintage vehicles that inhabit New England. The blog is primarily based in Rhode Island.
ONEC was founded by good school friends David Hajian and Sam Gerhard, who both shared a passion for classic cars. The blog took shape during the 2020 Pandemic, when David would bike ride around Cranston and Providence, RI, photographing the classic cars he would find on his rides. He soon enlisted the help of Sam, based in North Providence, RI, to join in on the search for classic cars, and add them to their growing collection of classic car photos.
What started as just simply a hunt for classic cars from the 1960s and '70s, began to expand to include more modern classics from the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s. They also began to include older daily drivers that, once common road vehicles in their childhoods, had begun to disappear from the brutal New England roads as the years went by.
Currently, while the two primarily have been focusing on their professional careers, the ONEC mission continues, with even more cars being spotted from different parts of the Northeast, including New Jersey, Maine, and Massachusetts. Sam and David also enjoy wrenching on their own "old New England cars," a 1965 Chevrolet Impala and a 1978 Saab 99, respectively.

The '65 Impala has been Sam's project for the past year. Having the desire to restore a classic car from the golden years of American automotive design, Sam discovered this Impala a year prior in 2021, and fell in love with it.
It's an all original '65 Impala, with a 283 CI engine coupled to the undying GM "Powerglide" two speed automatic transmission. His goal is to restore it to its original state as it rolled off the St. Louis GM plant in '65. Modern appointments, such as front disc brakes and a retrofitted Bluetooth accessory in the radio were added for ease of use.

The 1978 Saab 99 EMS is David's classic car and driving project car. A Swedish car fanatic for several years, a Saab 99 was the perfect choice. It combines the unique Saab styling, engineering, safety, and reliability all in one car.
This 99 is all original with the exception of the rims from a similar 1978 99 Turbo. The 99 EMS was the sportiest Saab available at the time before the 99 Turbo, so this car has some pep to it. It has a four speed manual transmission and is powered by the 2.0 liter naturally aspirated Saab B-Engine. EMS also stands for Electronic fuel injection Manual transmission Special.
The goal? Make it mechanically sound, all while enjoying it. An old car is full of character, while also a sustainable choice for those looking to lessen their carbon footprint. After all, a classic Saab is full of character!

From April 2023 to September 2023, the Volvo became the source of David's preferred method of transportation. After returning home from school in New York, a commuter car would be needed to get to school and back.
Being a Swedish car enthusiast, he came to the conclusion that a Volvo 240 would be the car of choice, as the Volvo 240 is revered for its reliability and safety. Volvo also produced over 1 million models.
While the Volvo was enjoyed for several months, it began to become problematic, and justifcation for ownership was no longer reasonable. The Volvo was sold in September of 2023 to a local enthusiast and friend of ONEC, and will always hold a place in our hearts. It is still on the road to this day (2026).
