David: The Swedish Meet-Ball is a small local show hosted by Jim Lucht, whose cars you may have seen in a previous entry. The Meet-Ball specializes in classic Saabs and Volvos, but all Swedish cars are welcome from any generation. Daniel and I attended with our classic Saabs, and met up with some friends and made some new ones. It was a lovely way to spend a beautiful afternoon, with good company, laughs, and classic Swedish cars.
Before we look at some of the cars, this Swedish Meet-Ball honored the life of legendary RI DJ, Volvo enthusiast, co-host, and friend Pauly Danger, and featured a few of his old Volvos that he would bring to past shows.
Rest in peace, Paul Bedrosian (1983 - 2025).
The Cult of Saab.
Now Rhode Island has a "Sonett" Sonett! If you recall from past Swedish car show entries, there's a red 1967 Sonett II with a Massachusetts registration touting a similar plate.
The iconic Saab "Sport and Rally" steering wheel is a period correct piece, but is original to a Saab 96 interestingly. It fit right into this Sonett though, and looks fantastic, tieing the whole car together.
A dragon fly lands on Nicki the 99.
What a rare sight!
I'm a really big fan of that shift knob.
Left to right: 1993 Saab 900 S, 1978 Saab 99 EMS, 1972 Saab Sonett III, 1969 Volvo 145s, 1989 Volvo 240 DL, 1992 Volvo 940 Turbo, and 1978 Volvo 242 GT.
This 850 R featured a manual transmission swap from its original automatic. 850 R's were not available with manual transmissions in the US, making this 850 one of a kind.
A full lot!
Special delivery! Wait, that's not Swedish! Who cares! It's a Kei truck, and its here at the Swedish Meet Ball. A Kei truck is welcome anywhere with its happy vibes.
A dog takes refuge under a 240
This was the Volvo the dog was under.
Two icons, one brand, one undying motor. Does it get any more Volvo than a 240 or a 940?
A turbo wagon!
Jim's classic legend. Ever since photographing it way back in 2020, I'd always wanted to see the car again. Fortunately, I got to, about five years later! We had the pleasure of sitting inside it too!
Aero is loving excitment!
Left to right: 9000 Aero, 1990 900 Turbo Convertible, 1993 900 Turbo, and Daniel's 1993 900 S.
This classic Swede drove all the way down from New Hampshire to join us!
This car is kind of a legend on ONEC at this point.
Paul's family enjoys a laugh...
Jim enjoys a beer...
Everyone is having a ball!
Dubbed an Aero clone by Jim, this 9-5 started life as an Arc trim car, one below the Aero. It was rear ended, and repaired by Jim, who installed an Aero liftgate in place of the original.
A beautiful classic and daily driver.
A clean customized example.
No one was quite sure what this one was... but it was truly a majestic beast.
